Unchecked, yes, methane can be harmful to the environment in large quantities. However, a lot of modern landfills participate in the EPA’s “Landfill Methane Outreach Program” (LMOP) collect the methane and either use it on-site to power machines and equipment or sell it as renewable energy. There are currently 595 operational projects and ~475 candidate landfills participating in this program.
No, while Envirocooler-evg is biodegradable in a bio-reactive landfill within 4 years, in order to be certified by any agency, it needs to biodegrade within a year.
A bio-reactive or bioreactor landfill is defined by the EPA as being a municipal solid waste landfill in which liquids are added to help bacteria break down the waste. The increase in waste degradation and stabilization is accomplished through the addition of liquid and air to enhance microbial processes.
Our plan is to have our stacked Envirocooler logo (picture above) molded into the lid and/or displayed on any exterior packaging of any container made out of the Envirocooler-evg material. This is our trademarked name and any retail products using this technology will bear a similar logo.
Our engineering and manufacturing teams across the country have put a lot of time and thought into this, and have come up with some excellent methods for cleaning out larger equipment of traditional EPS bead and have put resources towards having dedicated smaller equipment solely for the Envirocooler-evg material. We have also evaluated our machine scheduling to further reduce risk and make sure that if there is crossover, it’s the Envirocooler-evg going into the traditional EPS, and not the other way around.
